About meThe experience of three generations
Wood-carving has been a way of life and expression in the family I was born in for decades. After all those years of meetings with the wood, peace and calmness have become my desire and preference. The peace is the intense energy I am trying to give wood-carving, so it could fill up the space with its own special type of presence.
My
teacherI grew up with one of the greatest masters of wood-carving
My grandfather, Ivan Maranov, was an extremely modest man. His name did not get the brilliance of glory, though he deserved it. He made the wood-carving in the throne room of the Ethiopian Emperor, Haile Selassie. He participated together with the team of Professor Travnitski in the construction of King Boris III Throne, the iconostasis and the outer door of the church in Bankia, as well as many others.
Wood-
carvingWhen I feel life in wood, I give it a form to speak
Hour after hour only the blows of hammer or the quiet work of chisel are heard. It seems that they had been quiet for years. In fact, the wood is talking. When I hold it in my hands, I understand what it says and feel the form that will come from its inside.
My workI consider it very important to know what wood-carving commissioner’s wish is.
When I make somebody’s order, I try to go as deep as possible inside his world. This is the only way to create a harmony between the wood-carving and the space that surrounds its future owner.
